Hi,

I am trying to configure my laptop to access the internet through my
desktop system.

Laptop: Windows 2000 professional
Desktop: Windows 2000 professional with a Broadband connection
(via a USB modem).

The two systems are connected via a 10 MB/sec network cards

I have (obviously unsuccessfully) configured ICS on both systems but I
can not get to the internet on the laptop.

I can still get to the net from my desktop so I haven't damaged that
side of the connection and I can still communicate between the laptop
and the desktop systems OK

Is there an easy step by step guide out there that could show me what I
should do.

What I have done is;

On the Desktop (host)
Do I need to change anything in the LAN settings? (I haven't touched
anything)
in the TCP/IP section it has its IP address set specifically and a
sub-net mask set but the default gateway is blank.
It has use the following DNS server ticked (there are 2 white boxes to
enter IP addresses in) but there are no addresses entered.

If I click on properties of my network connection under the sharing
section there are ticks in both
"Enable ICS for this connection" and "Enable on demand dialling"

Is that all I have to do to configure the host?

ON LAPTOP (Client)
I set the LAN TCP/IP properties to "Obtain an IP address automatically"
and "Obtain DNS server address automatically"

The IP address TAB says DHCP Enabled

IN IE6 I have connections set to;
never dial a connection
and in the LAN section "Automatically detect settings"

thanks

after enabling the ICS on the connection you wanna share,
then goto RRAS (my computer >manage> RRAS ) to enable IP
routing for connection sharing.

the most simple way to share internet connection is using
a router, cheap and bring in more function, specially on
the security aspect.

Thanks for the info but I cant find RRAS in the device manager of the
control panel in My computer and there is nothing in my computer called
manager.

Yes, but I'm not sure how often I will use this, but it is something to
consider when I start work again, I'm training to be a teacher at the
moment and money is tight.
