I have not gotten my board yet but... on other boards you have to install
ich5r driver while installing operating system (F6). Is this not the case
with asus p4c800 e dx? I don,t see a driver on there web site.

First thing you do after you installed a FRESH XP system is installing
the ICH5R driver then the other drivers/software. There is also a
workaround if you didn't see:

You install the driver at the beginning of the OS installation when it ask
you to hit F6. you can download the driver to floppy from the INTEL web site.
You enable onchip raid but you dont create a raid array. You have to have the
driver or it wont boot to a SATA drive.
Here is the link to the driver. DOUG

This is a chipset update utility which is installed after the OS,what you need
is the raid driver which is installed at the beginning of the OS installation.

Yes, I already have that (ICH5R intel driver) for a gigabyte board I have,
I figured it would be the same f6 procedure with the same driver from intel.
Then i believe you install the cd driver over for it to work correctly.

The raid driver you have for the gigabyte board is the same driver, the
INF update you install after the OS is installed is the same also. The INF
file you install after the OS is installed is not a driver,it is an IAA update
for the ICH5 chipset,to help things like the SATA drives to function
correctly, you even need it for it to boot with a SATA drive. DOUG

I had a problem with my machine booting once ... it would hang when xp was
loading. I had not installed the inf as you said. I did that and it booted
fine ...no problems since.
