In Windows XP Professional with SP1 get the following
error message
when Luanching a program from within help.
"Microsoft HTML help Executable has encountered a problem
and
needs to close".
I have install the HTML Hotfixs Q323255 and Q811630 to no
avail.
Any ideas?

Here are some things to try:

1) Delete or rename the file hh.dat, which you should find here:

\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\HTML
Help

This file stores user-specific settings for all the HTML Help (.chm)
files on your system, such as changes to the Favorites tab and to the
size and position of the help window, so you'll losing these settings
by deleting the file. Windows will automatically create a new version
of the file when you next open any help file.

2) Empty your Temporary Internet Files directory. (In Internet
Explorer, select Internet Options on the Tools menu, and then click
the Delete Files button on the General tab.)

3) Use MJ's Help Diagnostics to check that the components required to
view help files are properly installed and registered on your machine.

The only section of the MJ's Help Report that is relevant to your
problem is the one headed "HTML Help Run-time Components".

To update from the event application log:

Description: Faulting application hh.exe, version
5.2.3644.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version

Have all latest hotfixes installed. The HTML version is
at 1.4c

Maybe someone has a clue on how to approach.

Can you paste the contents of the Help Report into a reply (just the
section headed "HTML Help Run-time Components")?

Also, if you haven't already done so, can you check that your .chm
files are correctly associated with hh.exe (see the section headed
"HH.Exe" at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_h.htm)? Finally, can
you let me know what the version number is of your copy of
\windows\hh.exe (right-click the file in Windows Explorer and then
click Properties on the context menu)?

website.
