HP SJ IIc: ADF turns paper

Hi all,
admittedly, the hardware is not brand new, but still going strong.

I have to convert a 50 page document to a pdf file, using a trusty old
HP ScanJet IIc with the optional ADF, and the HP copy utility to print
to a file first.

The first pages are scanned without problems, but on every attempt,
after having scanned 8 to 10 pages, single pages are turned during the
feeding process, as if they get stuck somewhere in the paper path.
Then some pages are scanned regularly again. The turning can not be
linked to specific pages.

There is neither an obstacle nor any other visible or feelable
mechanical blockage in the paper path.

Now, my suspect focuses on the transport rollers. They seem to have
lost some grip. What is the best way to clean them? Isopropyle
alcohol? From above, there is only access to the passive rollers. Are
there any capstans underneath that might need some cleaning too? How
can I access them without disasssmbling the ADF?

And what about that wide whiteish transport band that takes the paper
over the glass?

Or are there any other possible reasons for the turning? Seen from
above, the paper is turned clockwise.

If nothing helps, is there a way to patch single pages into a
multipage pdf document? I could rescan the 'bad' pages and insert
them. Nope, no linux experience here, but if there is a simple way of
editing the set of ps pages that are converted to pdf later, all
advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance for all helpful comments!

Regards,
Ulli

The full version of Acrobat lets you insert and delete pdf pages at will.
