HP 940c Skewed Printing

My HP 940c inkjet is printing a consistent rotated image. A stright line
is printed 1 mm higher at the right margin than the left margin. The
printed image is consistently aligned at the skewed angle.

Story:

My ex-wife gave me this printer after it was in storage for a few
months; she'd bought a printer to replace it. She said "There was
something wrong with it. I took it to a shop but they wanted a lot of
money just to look at it."

"What's wrong with it?"
"I can't remember. Something. Maybe you can fix it."

After buying cartridges for it (it was provided with a dead color
cartridge and a geriatric black cartridge), I tested the printer as
extensively as I could, and found nothing wrong with it.

(Perhaps this is why we are no longer married, and I'm a lot happier man.)

I've found that two screws are missing. These are behind the print
cartridge condition logos at each side of the access cutout. It's
possible that more screws are missing, but I haven't noticed them. I
don't know how to get the covers off this machine safely.

In addition, but probably not relevant: the switch plate is not firmly
held at its left edge; I think that part of the fixing prong shape on
the cover has broken off.

It seems to me that the paper feed tray assembly is not as rigidly held
as it should be.

Any ideas?

Richard

You have to know when to hole em' and when to fold em' Richard.
With all the missing and loose stuff it almost sounds like someone has
attempted to make a repair on the device. Those screws don't normally
turn up missing.
A replacement for something like that is $10 at my local resale store
and $2 at a garage sale. I walked away from one for $2 just yesterday.
This printer is always going to be a reminder of the bad old days for
you. I suggest you hook up with a younger model all the way around.
