Hi,
WindowsXP is much less fault tolerant than Windows98. Your situation
suggests a hardware problem - either a misconfiguration or a bad component.
Recheck cabling, jumper settings, do NOT overclock, and run a software test
on the ram using something like Docmemory. You might also try limiting
peripherals and booting with only one ram stick installed (if you are using
multiple sticks).
