Help with Media Player settings

I have loaded Media Player 9 and I am running XP Professional. I have built
in LAN that I have disabled in windows since I do not yet have another PC
connected. I have one Admin account and 3 Limited User accounts. I use 56k
dial up connection to connect to Internet.

Am I suppose to set media player to only connect at 56k rather than leave
everything set to the default settings of automatically detect connection?
If I use the media bar, and stop a clip from playing, it will automatically
restart the clip without a window, but I can hear the audio. I have to
select play and then stop again to get it to stop.

I must have something setup wrong somewhere. It almost seems like XP is
somehow using 2 separate settings or something--otherwise the clip would not
restart on its own after I have stopped it. It seems that some of these
problems started after I loaded Office XP. It seems to have screwed up my
dial up connection??

Does anyone have any suggestions?
