This is driving me crazy. I sit here and listen to SOMETHING being
written to the HD. At the moment the Internet Gateway has received
6,751,772 packets. The gateway has been connected 5 days 20:16:46 hrs.
In this time my computer has received 842,291 packets and has sent
15,548 packets. The gateway has sent 266,122 packets.
This is a current model HP computer connect by wire to a Linksys G
router which is connected to one other wireless computer in the house.
The CABLE MODEM is Motorola, I think, on loan for Comcast.
What is causing all this activity? I removed MS IM and have no other
uploading or downloading that i know about. i stopped the automatic
downloading of updates. But there it goes, ticking away, receiving
packet after packet.
I presume it's something polling the connection but i can't figure out
what. I have an antivirus (AVG) and repeatedly run CCleaner and TuneUp
Utilities, and Spybot Search & Destroy.
