Help! I get a Widows Defender "failed to initiate" window at start

Dan, you are quoting from ancient advice which is no longer relevant. Start
a new thread, and state what happened or didn't as plainly and clearly as
possible.

Please include what version of Windows, and perhaps what other antivirus or
antimalware software you may have installed.

What antivirus application are you running?

Just picked up a Dell Inspirion for nmy 9 year old. Lots of problems with
Dell. I received the message "application failed to initiate 0x800106a for
Windows Defender. After a few hours of trying to fix I decided to unistall
the McAfee trial as I figured in some way the virus programs were
conflicting. I was right. Rebooted after unistalling and Windows Defender is
scanning this Laptop as I write this message. Bouht McAfee program and plan
to instal it in a few minutes. I little afraid to do so. Hope this helps.

i thik sonething wrong with windows defender it will not even download on to
laptop
