Hi All,

I've run into this problem twice in the field now and can't for the life of
me figure how to fix it.

after cleaning viruses from a computer, and deleting a bridge connection,
I'm left with a couple of dialup connections, a firewire connection, and a
10/100 nic connection.

after connecting the 10/100 nic to a router I cant get the computer to auto
detect the network. another computer will so I know the router is ok.

when I check the connection setup, client for Microsoft networks is
unchecked along with file and printer sharing for ms networks. when I check
both boxes and click OK, it says are you sure you want to disable these
items. the only options are OK and Cancel. when you go back in to check them
they are again disabled.

tcp/ip is checked as well as odyssey network services.

I've tried everything. short of reinstalling windows XP.

Is it virus damage? OS damage?

Help!!!!!!

Greg

info:

both win XP SP2, both have dialup accounts, both relatively new notebooks.
