This is caused by Vista's Indexing Service. It is busy indexing your
drive and it will stop soon.

Indexing is different in Vista. It can take some time to create the initial
index.

I have right clicked on my c drive and un-checked the box for "index drive for faster searching" so that the "indexing" stops....but it is still going on after a week! I have had my computer running vista for over 2 months before this was happening. Why does it suddenly feel the need to make everything run slow? I have some friends who have not experienced this at all! I have run virus scans with multiple programs and the only thing that seems to stop it from happening is starting up task manager and end process for the largest svchost.exe usually between 57 - 72,000KB and it does nothing to the system but stop the hard drive....but not for long...after a while it starts up again...can someone please tell me whats going on? why would no one tell us of this? and how do i make it stop!?

I would not count out the fact that you may still be contaminated, even
though you have found nothing. There are many types of malware that will
bring a system to it's knees.
