GRIDVIEW: Effecting buttonfields on single gridview rows

I have a gridview that has some ButtonFields for delete, edit, etc.
When the user clicks on delete the row is marked for deletion in the
database and the gridview is refreshed, showing the row is in that
state. So far so good.
"delete" and "edit" are now no longer logically valid for that row. Is
there a way to set buttonfieldss in a specific row to invisible or
something similar?
Thanks, Mark
