I've searched this forum high and low to find an answer to my question, but
to no avail. There are grey, numbered custom-slideshow boxes cluttering my
normal view and making it difficult to edit. Can I remove the boxes
temporarily? Thank you in advance for your help.

If you are running PPT 2002 or later....
By chance is the custom animation task pane open? If so, that would indicate
to me that the numbers are the animation order numbers. Change off of the
custom animation task pane and the numbers won't show anymore.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, in fact the custom animation task pane was
open in PP2002. Although, I was hoping to keep the pane open *and* remove
the grey, numbered boxes from the normal slide view. Is there a way to do
that?
Thank you again.
