Is it posssible to use "gpedit.msc" in XP Home Edition,
if not, the following KB seems to be saying we can ?

No, gpedit can't be used in XP Home. However try the following utility from
Doug Knox:

The article is poorly worded.
It is not supported.
Copy it over from an XP box, it won't run. There is a little bit more
missing.

This tool gives a lot of the functionality that gpedit would if it was in
Home

No. You can copy that file and and some other required system files to
the XP Home edition, then it's possible to run "gpedit.msc". However,
you won't see any helpful settings/options in that case.

The Microsoft KB article only refers to registry changes associated with
various Policies that can be made with both Windows XP Pro & Home, which I
assume is all gpedit.msc basically does anyway, but is only supported in XP
Pro.

Those registry entries for Group Policy will work in XP Home but you have to
change the registry yourself because the Group Policy Editor interface only
works in XP Pro (so you don't have to mess with the Registry),

I understand from you post that you want to make sure whether it is
possible to use "gpedit.msc" in XP Home Edition.

The answer is the utility is only available in the Windows XP Professional
Edition. Thank you for all the former replies.

"Gpedit.msc" is a Group Policy Editor to define user and computer
configurations for groups of users and computers. Because Windows XP Home
Edition is not designed to enter a domain, some domain related utilities
(for example: Gpedit.msc) are also not included in the Windows XP Home
Edition.
