Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'test 1 2 3', Account: 'POP3', Server: 'bigpond.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Account: 'POP3', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

"POP3" is not the correct server name.
You need to check your email provider's webpage for email help and find the
correct server names.
Perhaps this is it????

Your server names are not correct. Go to Tools, Accounts, select the
account, Properties, Servers. Change the incoming (POP3) server name
from POP3 to mail.bigpond.com. Change the outgoing (SMTP) server
name from bigpond.com to mail.bigpond.com.

When I shut down Windows Mail it asks if I want to compact messages. I say
yes and it tries and I get an error message while it looks for a solution.
Then it restarts mail but doesn't present a solution. Anyone have any
suggestions?

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them cause assorted
problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

I don't know if the following fix works for that problem, but you might try
it since it often works for the more common problems in Windows Mail.
Download and install it with Windows Mail not running.

If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or the 64-bit
version, try the 32-bit version first. If it refuses to install, also try
the 64-bit version.
