I have upgraded my computer from Windows 98 to Windows XP. I have an
accounting package One Wire Plus that is installed and running in XP.
However, I am not able to print checks using my dot matrix impact printer. In
Windows 98 I could control the form length to 42 lines/7 inches. The printing
is OK for the first check except the page is 11 inches. I have tried setting
the page length to 7 inches in which case the the output is not correct. Is
it posible to install and use the Windows 98 generic printer driver? Is there
more detail info regarding the control codes for the XP/generic printer
driver? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Roy

You can't install the Win9x driver on XP. What is the make and model of
your printer?

Printer make and model? Check the manufacturers website for updated
drivers for a dot matrix printer that is compatible with XP. I still use
an old Panasonic KX-p2023 dot matrix with XP and it works great, but
no color.

The printer is a Epson T1000. The Epson driver places the printer in the NLQ
mode which is very slow and the print quality is not required - just text
only to print checks. Again, the application is to print 7 inch checks on a
dot matrix printer. I have noted that there are numerous users that are
having the same problem - if MS is not willing to address the issue are there
tools available for the user to fix the problem.

It's not Microsoft's problem, it's Epson's. They made the printer. They
are responsible for writing the drivers. The only driver available is that
on the XP CD:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;293378

It may not have all the functions you were used to having, this is because
the printer was designed for Windows 3.0 and is not supported by anyone
anymore.

Hello!

On my WinXP, there is a "Generic / Text Only" printer driver available.
I am not sure whether this is included in the standard windows XP
installation. Just try it:

Open the "Add printer" wizard.
Choose manufacturer "Standard".
Choose printer model "Generic / Text Only".
Install this driver.

This driver supports a lot of paper sizes including endless.
Disadvantage is that it is limited to the standard line spacing.
You cannot adjust line spacing via your application.

You can customize this driver so that it sets the printer into the mode
you need (e.g. draft or NLQ). To do this, you'll have to look up the
control codes in your printer manual and enter them in the appropriate
fields in the driver's printer property dialogue.

Hope this helps.
