Hi,

For awhile I've been trying to get a Geforce videocard and a soundblaster to
work together. First:

System:
Motherboard: MSI 7100 (K8N Diamond)
Graphichs adapter: MSI geforce 7600GS PCIE
Sound card: Soundblaster Live! 24-bit (included in MB)
Memory: 4GB memory
OS: XP PRO Sevice pack 2
BIOS: Phoenix AWARDBios 6.00PG(latest version)

Problem description (3 cases):
1.
Normally when Windows start either the Geforce won't start (Code 10) or the
interrupts take approx. 30% of CPU usage and no sound is played. If
Soundblaster is uninstalled the CPU usage drops down.
2.
If Soundblaster driver is uninstalled. Windows starts fine, detecting
Geforce. The Soundblaster driver can then be installed and everything works
fine (without restarting) ... However next time when the computer is turned
on case 1 occurs.
3.
If NVIDIA display driver is uninstalled. Windows starts fine and
Soundblaster works ok. However in order to install the NVIDIA drivers, the
computer needs to be restarted and case 1 occurs.

I've tried the following
Disabled the Soundblaster on the Motherboard and put Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS
in one of the PCI slot (no change in the above)
Tested MSI Geforce 6600LE graphics adapter (no change in the above)
Reinstalled the BIOS and other system drivers ... (no change in the above)
Repaired XP, using the install/repair option on the XP Pro CD (no change in
the above)

Any thoughts on what I can do to solve this irritating problem?

Are you trying this with only the included Microsoft drivers or have you tried
this with the manufacturer's drivers (MSI, nVidia and Creative Labs?)

Hi,

I have tried the MSI driver versions, nVidia versions and Creative versions
-- all combinations ... But not with Microsoft's drivers. Is there a
Soundblaster Live! 24 Bit driver from Microsoft? (The Creative and MSI
versions are from april 2005)

Currently installed drivers:
Display Adapter: 6.14.10.9371 (nVidia version)
Soundblaster : 5.12.1.506 (MSI version)

Today I disabled the Creative driver (MSI version) and then the CPU usage
due to the interrupts dropped down to zero from approx 20-30%. Upon
re-enabling it the usage went up ...

I then disabled it again and restarted. Windows detected and started the
graphics adapter (NX7600GS). I then enabled the Creative driver and got a
blue screen with an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. Repeated this again and it
worked!?

I have a similar situation--I upgraded my GeForce video card, I think 5500 or
5200?, with a GeForce 6600 video card and since then my computer reboots
whenever it feels like it. It only goes to a blue screen once in a while but
it has started rebooting more frequently lately. I have tried to update the
drivers, etc., but no luck--I even cleaned my hard drive and did a clean
install; then when that didn't work, I made a new partition--and system
restore. What should I do toss the system?? I had it made for me it has
Windows XP with SP2--I thought I should take the video card upgrade out & put
the old one back in--but they should be compatible--right?? I am open to any
suggestions. Thanks

Have you updated the BIOS? If not, try that it may solve your problem.

No I haven't. I'll try that!! The Microsoft website should have
instructions on how to do that, right?? I try to stay out of those places
unless I absolutely have to--now is the time however! I'll keep you

Have you tried the driver cleaner. Nvidia is notororious for these
driver
clashes. Follow the readme explicitly.

Updating BIOS ahs nothing to do with Microsoft or Windows. Check with the
maker of your motherboard.
