It seems I an not the only one having problems with games
crashing or not running at all under Windows XP.
I am using an AMD Atlon (tm) XP 2000MHZ processor, with
512 mb of memory, NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440. I have upgraded
all the drivers to XP supported versions. I am also
running DirectX9a. and have installed SP1a pack.
The games I am trying to run are. GTA III, GTA Vice City,
Carmageddon TDR 2000. Rally Championship. Before I
purchased this computer all the games used to run under
Windows ME, without any problems.
Any Ideas????

With an AMD Athlon, Bob, you may have a VIA chipset on there. Check
http://www.via.com.tw/en/index/index.jsp to see if there's an update for
your motherboard. One of my machines' performance turned around
dramatically with the 4-in-1 drivers addressing a problem on the motherboard
related to the AGP slot.

Hi Chris
Thank you for the info, but, unfortunately I am now
confused as to what driver I need to download.
My motherboard is a Matsonic MS8137C+ MAINBOARD
with VIA KT266A Chipset Socket A mainboard.
The problem is that there are downloads for drivers on
both matsonic and via websites.
Youe help would be appreciated.
Bob

VIA would probably be the most current, Bob. Just match up your motherboard
with the information on the site, and it should lead you to the proper
4-in-1 driver, if they have one available.

Hi Chris
Thanks for the info, have tried all you said, but to no
avail. I never had this problem with Windows ME. I really
do not know what to do next. Could the Nvidia Graphics
card be incompatable with XP or the Motherboard?
Regards
Bob

Did the motherboard come with onboard sound and graphics, and then you added
the graphics card, Bob? You may have a conflict in the BIOS, if that was
the case.

Are you perhaps running some third-party software, like anything Norton on
the system or maybe ZoneAlarm? If so, try uninstalling those temporarily
and see if there's any difference. We had a situation a while back where ZA
was blocking certain things, and people were having a bad time with it.

Perhaps Jimmy will pop in with some ideas. I'm nearly fresh out. 8-)
