Did the motherboard come with onboard sound and graphics, and then you added
the graphics card, Bob? You may have a conflict in the BIOS, if that was
the case.
Are you perhaps running some third-party software, like anything Norton on
the system or maybe ZoneAlarm? If so, try uninstalling those temporarily
and see if there's any difference. We had a situation a while back where ZA
was blocking certain things, and people were having a bad time with it.
Perhaps Jimmy will pop in with some ideas. I'm nearly fresh out. 8-)
