Could anyone please tell me why my windows mail has suddenly asking me to
vertify my user name and password and then won't accept them?

Probably because your non-compatible antivirus has corrupted that account.
Which antivirus are you running?

If AVG was installed using the default install option, it can cause problems
in Windows Mail. If so, uninstall AVG, then reinstall using the custom
install option, which then allows you to deselect the installation of the
mail scanning module. That mail scanning module is what causes the
problems in Windows Mail.

Ok.. I uninstalled my AVG and then reinstalled it as you directed using the
custom install option and deselected the installation of mail scanning BUT I
am still getting the same message asking me to verify my user name, etc. The
error number is 0x800CCC92. Now what? Do I have to make a new account and
if so can I keep the same email address?

If you can delete the account and then start over it should fix any
damage done (The damage was done before you reinstalled AVG of course so
the reinstall alone won't fix it). If you have important stuff to keep
they by all means try exporting it first, but of course this depends on
what damage was done. You could always download windows live mail or
Thunderbird and try setting one of those up, both are better than the
ordinary mail client and it does not matter how may clients you have set
up to read / write mail - just set the server options to "leave a copy
on server until I delete".

The previous install of AVG probably corrupted that account.
Delete that mail account in Windows Mail, restart Windows Mail,
then recreate the account.
