WARNING: WARNING WARNING: This is from the user's manuel. I started to dl it
BUT....stopped it when I read this:

To be able to use PC INSPECTORT File Recovery 4.x you need a working WINDOWST System.
Never install the current version on the drive from which you intend to recover data!
The software must be installed and run on a second, independent drive.

Don`t worry about the Warning. It`s standard practice to install recovery SW
to another drive, `cos if you don`t you`ll start over-writing the drive you
want to recover from. Logic really. ..J

See http://www.partitionsupport.com/utilities.htm. The author, Svend
Olaf Mikkelsen, oftens hangs out in
http://www.partitionsupport.com/utilities.htm and if he sees your
post his is likely to comment on the output you get from running his
utilities and even talk you through the recovery.

I have used one backup software and I found its company has one free data recovery software, but it only can recover data at most 1 GB. May be you can download it and have a try. It can do format recovery, unformat and recover deleted files emptied from Recycle Bin or lost data due to partition loss or damage. It is easy to use. However, if you have overwritten you data, it may not help you.
