For all owners of Apple Intel PCs, note that this build installs fine
under BootCamp Assistant. However, it also installs fine as the
exclusive OS on your HD.
IN either case, you will HAVE to extract the drivers from the Windows
XP Drivers Disk you created using BootCamp 1.1.1 using this method:
1) Copy the file "Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe" from the
driver disk you created using BootCamp 1.1.1 to a folder on Vista (I
used "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents").
2) Open a command prompt (Start/Run/"cmd"<Enter>
3) Enter these commmands at the command prompt:
CD "My Documents"<Enter> (don't forget to enclose the folder name in
full quotes).
"Install Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe" /V /a <Enter>
Only enclose the command in full quotes, not the switches "/V /a".
Also, add a space between the command and the first switch, and
between the switches.
4) The program will start, and will ask you for your language. Use
the language of your Vista installation.
5) The installer will extract the file "Install Macintosh Drivers for
Windows.msi" to the same folder you are currently in, then start the
..msi installer
6) The installer will start, then ask you were to install the "Server
Image". Choose the same folder you are currently in.
7) The installer will create a new subfolder named "program files",
and write the individual drivers in subfolders of their own.
Once the drivers are on your HD, close the Command Prompt, then open
Windows Explorer, and open that folder (in my case, "C:\Documents and
Settings\<user>\My Documents\program files").
Then, copy or move all files you find in the subfolder of
"C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\...\program files\System32" to
"C:\Windows\System32".
Once these drivers are on your HD, you can then install the ones you
need.
My machine is an Apple Intel iMac 17", and didn't need either the
SigmaTel sound driver, or the Broadcom Wireless driver. Use the
driver for the sound card in your particular Apple Intel machine.
Here are a few helpful hints:
1) Turn off Windows Defender, and in fact, uninstall it completely.
2) Turn off UAC.
3) Do those two BEFORE you attempt to install the Apple Drivers, as
both WD and UAC will interfere with the Apple Drivers' installation
once they are extracted. If those two programs are running, they
simply WON'T install. PERIOD.
3) ALWAYS make sure, when you decide on which driver to install, to
set its installer compatibility settings to "XP with SP2" BEFORE
launching its driver setup.
4) If you use Microsoft IntelliPoint 5.5/IntelliType Pro and a
Microsoft Desktop set or keyboard or mouse, make sure you set their
installers to launch using Windows XP compatibility mode, or they
WON'T install, PERIOD. In addition, do NOT start their setup using
"Setup.exe". Use the program ""stsetup.exe" (or something else. I
forget the first two characters). Then, once you start one of the
configuration programs (Microsoft Keyboard/Microsoft Mouse) installed
in Program Files, and found in the Start Menu, choose to use it anyway
when you get an error, and make sure to choose to not keep showing
that error (there is a check box which will stop the error from
showing up anymore). If you do this, your Microsoft mouse and
keyboard configuration programs will work just fine anyway.
Anyone who knows a solution to a disappearing Matshita DVD/CD drive on
Intel iMacs in Vista please respond to this post.
