Hello,

I am writing because I forgot my administrator password,
and because of this, I can't change it and choose a new
password. This means I can no longer use stand-by or
hibernate, because these oiption require the password to
activate the computer once more...Is there any way I can
retireve the password? or change it without knowing the
old one? Please help!

Thank you,
Ana

If the machine is currently logged on with an account with administrator
rights then
goto control panel choose users and passwords and create a new user with
administrator rights
dont set a passsword for it as you will be removing it later.
log off and log back on with the new account you just created, now you can
set the password for the account who's password you dont know by going into
control panel-users and passwords, highlight the account with the unknown
password and click "Set password"

remove the account once you have done this as you dont need it

Hello

You might try to reset the local Administrator
password with one of the methods mentioned here:

http://securityadmin.info/noframes/faqget.asp#password

http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_admini...r_password.htm

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpassword/bootdisk.html

I strongly disagree with your last recommendation. Newsgroups are
full of posts from people who have forgotten their admin password,
or who claim that the system will no longer let them in under the old
admin password. On the other hand there are no posts at all about
unauthorised access because of a second admin account.

The answer seems to be obvious: Treat your Windows installation
like your car - have two sets of admin accounts, same as you have
two sets of car keys. Anything else is, in my opinion, asking for
trouble.
