I found this ( ~ ) file on my desk top . Under properties
it says it's size is 184kb. I have no Idea what type of
file it is or how it got there. Can anyone tell me if
this is malicious or how it got on my desktop. I would
appreciate it.
Thank You
Mary

mary:
It's not malicious. It is caused by an MS patch for Outlook Express. Check
the article for details....
"What is the Tilde (~) file that appears on Desktop"

The tilde (~) is a result of this patch:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...94/default.asp

The file is created when certain changes are made to your address
book. The files can be safely deleted. However, it recreates automatically.
There is no resolution on this issue so far. As the file is non-fatal,
ignore this problem.

worried . You have helped my anxiety calm. I will read
