I am using the Exchange utility to do the offline
defragment from C: to D: drive. Then I delete the
Priv1.edb in C: and copy the defragment file from D:. I
guess it should be continued in the C: but it is not.
The file still fragmented. The priv.edb is 4GB. We have
36GB in the harddisk and only used 3GB on system. I have
defragment the C: after delete the old PRIV.EDB. The
file in D: is continues.

Godwin,

When you copy the compacted datastore from C: to D:, the file system will
only be able to create the file contiguously if there is a large enough
piece of contiguous free space on the C: drive. You would need to
defragment the C: drive and make sure that the defragmenter that you are
using is consolidating the free space on the drive.

Means that if I have a contiguous free space on c: then
the file will store contiguously from D: to C:. Do we
need to run the defragmentation on C: after copying.

You can either defrag prior to copying (if you have a defragmenter that is
capable of consolidating free space) or defrag afterwards.
