When I open files through various applications
the 'Open' files window invariable shows an incomplete
list of the file.ext type I want to open.
Is it possible to set the 'Files of type:'
field to 'All files (*.*)'?

Doubtly, most compilers allow the programmer to set his/her own filters.
However, you can just type "* <enter>" to see a full list. Or any other mask
(like *.txt). Default Open Dialog will re-filter the view instead of
accepting if a mask is inserted as filename.
