Hi,
I heard NTFS allows on the fly file encryption. How do I enable that ? I
tried Properties > Advanced in explorer but "Encrypt contents ..." option is
"greyed out". And I haven't enabled file compression either. I have tried it
on both my system partition and another (NTFS) partition.Whats wrong ? I
live outside US. Is it that "no encryption stuff export from US" law (I dont
know what it says) ? Is there any other way to encrypt files "on the fly" ?

Thanks

I can't help you with your particular problem. But, If you plan on
using XP's EFS ( Encrypted File System ), Make sure you completely
understand what you are doing and how it works.

Too many people have encrypte files without making a recovery disk, Had
to format their drives or create a new account, and not be able to access
their encrypted files. If you lose your authentication key, THERE IS NO
WAY TO ACCESS YOUR FILES!!!!!

Not all files and folders can be encrypted, see Help and Support for
details. There are pitfalls to be avoided (such as the one described here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290260)

Experiment with test folders and files. Before encrypting anything, you may
want to read up on encryption in general. A good starting point:

Greetings --

Are you using WinXP Pro? WinXP Home does not support EFS.
