Exporting a report with groups to Excel

I have a report which groups the data and only displays the group totals. I
would like to export it to excel - but just want the group total in excel -
it seems impossible to me but I hope somebody knows different. I'm a relative
novice so.....
Any suggestions gratefully received

push the raw data to excel and the create a pivot table using the raw data ,
summarize the fields you want, pivot tables are much easier to work with when
trying to summarize large amounts of data.

Another thing that you can do is save this file to Word using the .rtf
extension. Unfortunately Word is no good at doing calculations, but either
you can paste the data into Excel. Another thing is that you can save it as a
text file if you do not care about your formatting and then import it into
Excel. Sorry these all involve lots of steps and you probably have to do a
lot to get it to work, so the suggestion from Mark J is probably best, but if
you have LOTS of data this would be a way around saving out too much.
