Long story short, a friend made a movie slideshow and then lost the pictures
that went into the movie. Is there any way to recapture the pictures from the
movie? I have tried printscreen, but have had no luck. Any help?

What app created the video?

If you can play the file in Windows Movie Maker
you can do screen caps with the "Take Picture"
option. Be aware that the resolution of the
screen caps will probably be quite poor compared
to the originals.
