Explorer.exe crashes and restarts - WinXP Pro

I have Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 1, and my explorer.exe keeps crashing
and restarting. This is annoying, since I lose half my taskbar icons
everytime this happens. Are there any known fixes for this behavior?

I do not get an error message when this happens, but I get a message in
Event Viewer that says "The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was
restarted."

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
