my system crashed a day or two after a power outage.
i tried going in to sfe mode and got as far as

ERROR
the g:\i386\nt5inf.cat catalogfile could not be found. the
erreor code is 3e7.
this is a fatal error.
error performing inpage operation.

anybody got any ideas??

im thinking i lost some file from the operating system in
the surge or the hard drive is no more. help!!

Which filesystem is being used - NTFS or FAT? If using FAT,
then a power loss can erase files on the disk. Just another
in a long list of reasons why FAT was considered obsolete
before Windows 98 was released. If you suffered a surge, then
how many other electronic devices were damage? None? Then a
surge is not likely. Power loss is not a power surge despite
all the hype promoted by protector manufacturers.

If system got so far as to seek files on the CDRom (g:
drive?) then hard drive hardware is fine.
