Error when attempting backup

Hi,
I'm trying to do a backup before installing SP2 using
ntbackup, and I get the following message.
Error returned while creating the volume shadow
copy:80042301
Aborting Backup.
If I don't backup system state and I disable shadow copy,
the backup works. Any help appreciated.
