Until recently I was using the 1240 scanner with a windows 98SE
machine and it worked fine. However, I bought an windows XP machine,
and the original software does not seem to work well with XP. The
windows XP driver provided by Epson doesn't seem to work very well. I
am wondering whether the compatibility function provided by XP will
allow me to run the scanner in the Win 98 mode or the Win 2000 mode. I
am hoping that if I use the compatibility function, I will be able to
use the smart panel software. I have tried to use the compatability
function, and I don't understand it very well. Also, I should point
out that this is the first time, I have ever used XP. Any assistance
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JD

Get the latest driver from Epson. Click on the Window link under Driver &

I have gotten the latest driver and the scanner doesn't work nearly as
well as before. For instance, I have lost the smart panel.

You are out of luck, Smart Panel was only included on the CD that came with
the scanner. I don't think Windows XP existed at the time, So the Smart
Panel on the CD is not supported.

You may be able to buy a modern version from NewSoft Inc. They were the
original Creator.

CSMI,

I stumbled on XP's compatibility wizard and used it to reinstall
the scanner and the smart panel software, and the wizard worked. I am
happy that I don't have to buy any additional software.
