I don't know what's wrong on your system, but on mine, as long as the
microphone is plugged in I can speak into it, and hear it on the speakers.
Oh! I do know what might be wrong on your system! Open your volume
controls and make sure the mike isn't muted. To acess the volume
controls, go to the System Tray, find the icon that looks like a
speaker, right click it, and select Open Volume Controls or whatever
from the pop up menu.
