So I have an older box, but its still perfectly CPU and graphics powered
for my needs, but just want a little bit more memory.

I has a i850 chipset, with 2 256meg RAMBOS 45 ns non ECC modules.Have room
for 2 more, just was wondering, I'm pretty sure you can mix ECC and non
ECC, will the ECC work as ECC if the entire bank is ECC. Meaning would that
give me 512 megs of ECC ram, and 512 megs of non-ECC ram?

The price difference is about the same, ECC and non ECC what I have
noticed. I don't really have any more bucks to spend than enough for 2 256
meg modules. Doesn't bother me too much, just started wondering.

I doubt if you can mix ECC and non-ECC memory, and even if you can,
it's probably not a great idea.

Mixing ECC and non-ECC memory is kind of hit-and-miss, and with the
serial nature of Rambus I would guess that it's a lot more miss than
hit. It might work, but probably not.

Never tried it myself, but I'm 99% certain that ECC would have to be
disabled for the entire system. Assuming it would work at all, you
would have 1GB of non-ECC memory.

I actually got my hands on some and it seems to be working fine

have 2x256 pc800 45ns ECC in bank 0
have 2x256 pc800 45ns non-ECC in bank 1The bios and sftware prgrms both
show the above to true. Though I don't really know if the ECC is working or
not.

In any event all seems stable and well.
