Ok I finally did it....windows kept insisting NTFS was "better".....so I converted My slave disk.....supposedly I was to be able to do this with
"no loss of data"....WRONG!!! I lost EVERYTHING on the disk....and found out too late that even restore can't undo a dynamic disk conversion..
*sighs*. Ok...fine.....I recovered My data with some 3rd-party disk recovery software.....then completely re-formatted the disk into NTFS and
created 4 new volumes (empty at that point). I set up My network just as it was before, with various shared folders on this disk. All functions
perfectly....no errors....nothing in the performance logs, etc.....but just one annoying problem.....each time I reboot My machine....this disk
goes offline and has to be re-activated either in "Disk Management" (mmc) or with Diskpart in a Dos console. It re-activates or "online's" with
no problem.....BUT...all shares and network connections are lost....which requires setting up all the shares, mountpoints, etc...AGAIN...and logging
off/on to activate them. Anybody know how to get a dynamic disk to survive a boot with all settings restored? I never had this problem when the same
disk was still FAT32.
Addl info:
OS: WinXP Pro with sp1 and all updates installed
Network: 2 computers...4 h/d, other 3 disks are FAT32 and always have been
Thanks,
