I've used WindowsXP flawlessly for a year or so with
current drives listed above. All of a sudden both drives
will not recognize any media (new DVD movies, CD-R, DVD-
R, DVD-RW, CD-RW or even Program Install CD's). You can
hear drives spin-up but nothing happens. Opening MY
COMPUTER shows drives but when either drive is double-
clicked nothing happens. I've uninstalled drives in
device manager and ide controller and re-booted to no
avail. Please help because I want to avoid re-formatting
again.

I had this problem a while back. Try deleting the
secondary IDE controller (should be supporting the CDRW),
then shutting down and rebooting. XP should recognize
the secondary IDE controller as new hardware and install
it. The CDRW should be ok after that
As for the DVDRW, it could be on the primary IDE. You
wouldn't want to delete that. My DVD drive on the
primary just returned one day.
