I have a Sony DSR 200 DVCAM format. I cannot capture using Firewire and
Windows Movie Maker. Is the DVCAM format not supported or do I have to look
elsewhere - is it my firewire that doesn´t work?

Hello,

Does the computer recognise the camera when its plugged in?
Are you certain that you are using a Firewire connection and not a USB?
The recognition process occurs when you switch the camera to VCR mode.
