Has anyone out there successfully used the "pass-through"
capabilities of the newer digital camcorders to capture
video from an analog camcorder?
I am about to purchase a digital camcorder and get into
video editing, and I would like to know if this "pass-
through" ability will allow me to capture and edit all my
analog video as well.

I've used it to get from my Hi8 camcorder to the computer via my mini-DV
camcorder.

With a library of 8mm and Hi8 tapes, I thought a long time about that, and
ended up getting a mini-DV camcorder. With that feature and the high quality
captures I get with my Dazzle80, I'm all set.

Thanks for the reply, though I am a little confused. I
hope you can clarify this for me.

From what I understand the Dazzle 80 is for capturing
analog, but the pass-through mini-DV has already allowed
you to convert the analog signal to digital for input to
a firewire port.

I don't understand why I would need the Dazzle if I have
a DV camcorder with a passthrough.

Sorry to confuse you.... I mention the Dazzle only because it's an easier
option for me to use to capture from my analog camcorder than the
pass-through process is.

You wouldn't need both.

the way). I was puzzled when I came across this on your
website:

released in April 2003 Windows
Media 9 Capture allows you to do a
pass-through, saving to a DV-AVI
file which you can then import into
Movie Maker.

I thought that what you just told me was that I CAN use
