I have my panasonic dv camcorder hooked up from the usb port to usb port. I
opened MM2 and it only gives me options that it can capture from the
composite or s-video.

How do I capture the video?

This method (USB) of getting the DV image to the computer will not give very
good results. The speed of USB is not enough to maintain enough throughput
for high quality video.

The best way to do this is to use IEEE1394 (Firewire or iLink, Sony's
description of Firewire). This is designed to give high quality import
DV-AVI format and will work with your camera an WMM.

If your computer does not have firewire, you can purchase either a PCI
firewire (desktop) card or a PCCard (laptop) firewire card for under $30 and
install it. You will be much happier to download the files this way.

To add on to this there is a difference between USB 1 and 2, USB 2 could
handle the video but I doubt your camera has a USB 2 port/hook up. As far as
I know only the higher end cameras do but Firewire is the way to go. One
word of caution though there are different pins for Firewires so your cord
will need to what ever the card is and what ever the camera is. The one with
extra pins has a power source and can cause damage if it sparks burning out
either the camera or PC(or so I have been told). Do your homework first.

The 4 wire cord that hooks to the camera does not transfer power from the
computer. Only the 6 wire that is used for most Firewire Hard drives have
the power wires active. See here for more information on Firewire (cabling
about 1/5 way down page) http://www.vxm.com/21R.49.html
