Hello all you musicicians here in XP General and W98, and hardware NG's :-)

I've just spent a very satisfying morning, pulling a system box apart and
putting it back together again - PROPERLY with LOTS of TLC !!!! - ...I think
it was built someone that "knows all about computers" ! ...and I don't
mean that to sound condescending - we all had to start somewhere.

....anyway, it's got a MSI Ultra 745 (6561-010) ver.1.0 motherboard, with a
Duron DHD1600DLV1C 1600mhz (133mhz x 12) cpu on it, and (it did have 256mb's
RAM but, I added another 256mb's), 512mb's pc2700, even though ddr266 would
have done ...seeing as the Duron has a 133mhz fsb.

...also I notice, it has a pretty old Soundlblaster CT4810 1371/1373 128
voice soundcard in it.

...ANYWAY, ...the owner is a musician and uses the box primarily for music
applications such as SoundForge and lots of other music studio oriented
software, and my question is:-

Is this machine adequate for this sort of use, or would it be advisable to
get ones hand on a more powerful / old XP cpu such as an XP1800 256kb L2
cache / (1533mhz I know) or even an XP2600+ Barton with 512 L2 cache ??

regards, Richard

He may want a better soundcard.

If you look at the CPU support list, you may find the top processor
that machine can handle. (It can definately do better than the Duron).
