Hi,
I have a dual boot 98/xp machine.
The ps/2 has decided to give up on me.
And as 98 has issues with USB drivers, I was wondering how I can get around
this little hassle.
Serial mouse works with 98 but without k/b not able to check the bios.
I then tried XP and to no avail either.
Checked the m/b, and the plugs for p/s 2 seem a bit loose so I figure the
contacts are cactus.
Thx in advance
Don

Suggestion. A bit late, but next time consider VM Ware. Forget duals boots.

You don't have a Epox 8K7A+ Motherboard do you? I lost my Keyboard
PS2 connector a few years back. I had WinMe though.

When you say "The ps/2 has decided to give up on me", do you mean the PS/2
ports or the PS/2 keyboard?

What exactly do you mean with "I then tried XP and to no avail either"?
Tried what? What happened?

If your intention is to get the Win98 side of your PC to work without PS/2
ports then your best bet is to repost your question in a Win9x forum.

Try wiggling the keyboard connector during bootup while tapping
the BIOS setup key. Also, try checking the website of the mother-
board manufacturer to see if they have a BIOS setup program that
will run under Windows.

I had a PS2 mouse port fail my Thinkpad, but more investigation showed
it was the mouse connector.

Or, buy a USB keyboard. I have installed win98SE which didnt' come
with USB, but I installed that separately, with advice on a 98 group,
and it's worked fine ever since. It was just one file to make usb 1.1
work, which is fast enough for anything I do.

Pegasus's questions are all very good. Your description could be a lot
clearer.

That is right, the ports have given up.
Both ports.
However I have managed to use the USB k/b & mouse, with the BIOS beyond me.
Thx for all the input
Don

Great idea.
I intend doing the wiggle first chance I get (lol)
I have heard that I can get a new machine with a virtual partition (whatever
that means) and run my 98 programme on it.
So I think I am going to give this machine the boot.
Thanks heaps
Don

What they are referring to is a program that creates a virtual PC on
your PC. There are several virtual PC programs available, VMware,
VirtualBox and Virtual PC to name a few. What they do is create an
environment where you can install another operating system (usually
referred to as a Guest OS), and it think that it's being installed on a
completely separate PC. Usually these programs install a set of drivers
that allow it to share the video, audio, USB ports and networking
hardware between the Guest OS and the host machine.

It works fairly well, myself I use WMware's VMplayer and am pleased with
the results. I have virtual machines that run Win7, LinuxMint 8, Win
ME, and OpenSolaris.
