i have a harddrive with xp installed on it, i have got
another hard drive with nothing on it yet, i want to make
it so i can boot to either hard drive ( i will install 98
on the other hard drive), but some people say that you
need to install xp AFTER 98, is this right? if so is
there anyway i don't have to becuase i want to keep all
the stuff on the xp hard drive, but i would like 2.

Please point me in the right direction!

Thanks,

Pete.

Hi Peter,

How about disconnecting the XP HD. Connect the new HD, use
your Win98 boot disk to boot up, format the disk and
install Win98. Once that is done, shut down the computer,
reconnect your WinXP HD, make it Master, make Win98 Slave,
Voila!! Dual boot, I think, . Post your results so we
can all learn, thanks.

Good luck,

Hi, Blues.

I don't think that will work - unless Pete wants to unplug the first HD (or
disable it in the BIOS) each time he wants to boot to Win98. With the WinXP
HD in place, the computer will boot from it - to WinXP. He'll be able to
SEE Win98 from there, but won't be able to boot into Win98. And, drive
letters can get awfully confused when plugging and unplugging drives. :>(

See my other post for a better way to do it. Voice of experience; I've been
dual-booting various combinations of Windows for about 5 years and have made
many of the common mistakes. I've not tried the several third-party
solutions, such as Partition Magic or BootItNG, but I'm pretty familiar with
the native Microsoft dual-boot system.

Hi RC,

Thanks for the tip. I hope Peter gets everything to work.
I've learned so much ever since I've frequented this site
the last few weeks. Keep up the good work, ).
