My system is set up to dual boot Win98 and WinXP. Win98 is on C: and WinXP
on L:

I no longer have need to boot Win98 but the drive containing it includes
many things I need including the few files placed there by XP when it was
installed; boot.ini and ntldr for example.

I'd like to delete all of the Win98 system stuff to free up space but need
to know the names of *ALL* files used when booting so that I keep them.
I've Googled for them but unsuccessfully. Can anyone point me to a
definitive list?

You need three files:
- C:\ntldr
- C:\ntdectect.com
- C:\boot.ini

If you want to play it absolutely safe then you can test this beforehand
like so:
- Format a floppy disk while running WinXP.
- Copy the above files to the floppy disk. Note that they are hidden.
- Set the floppy disk drive as the primary boot device in the BIOS.
- Boot the machine from the floppy disk.
If it works then it will work without the floppy disk too, even after you
have deleted all other files & folders on drive C:.
