hey all

In a dual boot partition, is it ok for both sides to have the same pc name when logging on to a domain

I dont see why it wouldn't work... They are not being
used at the same time.

No, you must choose different names and join each instance to the domain as
a seperate entity.

The same 'box' will have different SIDs on each install, and so as far as
the domain is concerned, it's 2 different machines.

The domain will permit the first install with any name to join the domain.
After re-booting another install, the domain will consider it an imposter if
it claims to be the same machine, but with a different SID.

No, it's not only the computer name that defines the computer account on the
domain controller. Different windows installation will have different SIDs
therefore, from the domain controller perspective, even if they have the
same name, your two windows installations are different computers.
