I right click on my DSL modem lights on the task bar and select status which
opens a window with a network drawing.It uses several symbols,ie,padlock to
indicate firewall connected to receive channel.

Does anyone have a complete description of all the possible symbols used?

My transmit channel has a symbol I cannot identify,I don't know the meaning
of this symbol.It just appeared recently.

Do a Google search for Westell router/modem user manual. It's probably a free
downloadable pdf file. You may want to contact your ISP Support Services first
since they may have issued you a device which is tailored specifically for them.

These symbols are not restricted to the Westell. These symbols are
part of the UPNP service which the Westell "connects" with.

Take a screenshot of what you see and upload the screenshot to one of
several
free picture hosting WWW sites.

When you are done, we will be able to see what you are seeing.

Press the Print Scrn button to copy your entire screen to the Windows
clipboard.

Press Alt Print Scrn to copy just the active window to the Windows
clipboard.

Open MS Paint:

Start, Program Accessories, Paint

When Paint opens, press CTRL-V to paste the clipboard, save the new
Paint file
to your desktop or someplace you can remember. JPG files take up less
hard
disk space than BMP files and just as readable.

Make as many screenshots as you need. Practice makes perfect. Be
careful your
screenshot does not contain any personal information. Practice
viewing your images
before you upload them to be sure they are okay.

Create a free account on some free picture hosting web site. You can
always remove
your account later if you want. Here are some free image hosting
sites:

Using your free account, upload your screenshot(s) (the JPG or BMP
files) to the
site and it will return to you a URL web address (a link) for your new
image(s)
that you can paste in a message post, email, etc.

I wasn't referring to the symbols the OP may be confused about. I was referring
to the user manual/guide being possibly tailored by his ISP.

Keep in mind that none of this has anything to do with Windows XP, I was simply
giving some OT guidance to the OP.

I realize the problem is not with the router,I just listed that for
reference,

Here's the pix of the screen shot,note the two yellow symbols,one on the
xmit channel and one on the rx channel.

The padlock indicates the Windows Firewall is enabled which is
generally a good sign.

Disable the Windows Firewall, the padlock goes away.

Unless you think you are having a firewall issue, I would leave it
enabled.
