Hi,

Having upgraded from Win98se to Win2K pro my HP C1537A DDS 3 DAT no longer
works. It is connected via a Belkin USB -> SCSII converter.

Win2K reports the SCSII controller is OK but that the C1537A doesn't have
its drivers loaded. It didn't need drivers under Win98se to work under
MSbackup.

A search of the web, and specific searches on www.hp.com failed to turn up
anything relevent - only dlt drivers.

Any (constructive !) suggestions ?

NuT CrAcKeR,

No I hadn't tried that as when it is selected win2k says it isn't
recommended. I just did it and at least now the tape is reported in device
manager as working, but MSBackup Express refuses to use it. Although the 4mm
DAT shows in the target drop down list, if I try to run a back up it says
'no suitable media' or some such message. If I try to erase or format, the
options are greyed out.

Why is life so complicated <g>

is there a driver from HP for that device that is compatable with w2k? i am
sure you have checked on that...

it might simply be the USB>SCSI converter getting in the way. i have never
tried to use one of those. You can get a dirt cheap AHA2930 card on ebay
(probably less than $15) and run the drive right from the card. That will
probably solve your problem right there...

NuT CrAcKeR

It's worse than that ! The machine is a Compaq EN SFF which only has 4 pci
expansion slots all of which are used and I've actually got several Adaptec
scsii cards spare !

The frustrating thing is that it was FINE under win98se with no drivers at
all, and the version of MS Backup distributed with win98se handled it just
dandy with NO drivers !

Oh and yes the HP site has been my favorite haunt for a day or so
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew
