No sound after installing XP SP2. uninstalled, reinstalled. After searching
the net this seems to be a common problem I was directed to the plug & play
software emulator under system devices. It has the error message Windows
cannot load driver driver code 31. This I also uninstalled and reinstalled.
also tried a fix I found that involved deleting a line from allmachine. did
not work. So I did a clean install of XP yeah sound. Tried SP2 again once
again no sound and the same error messages. Contacted micosoft (useless) All
drivers are updated and XP Compliant. Everything points 2 the software
emulator (developed by microsoft) would greatly aprreciate some advice I have
a couple of programs that require the SP2 patch.

"All drivers are updated" from where?
Did you install the drivers supplied/for your hardware from the
manufactureres
Where exactly you obtain drivers depends on whether your sys is a Laptop, a
large OEM eg Dell/HP, or generic PC
