If the memory card slots are hosted by a card reader, the card
reader connects to an internal hub, they may be powering all
of that off USB bus power.
When the USB printer is turned off, you might want to check
either Device Manager or use UVCView, to see if the printer
is still visible on the USB bus. If so, the card reader might
still be causing a problem.
Unplugging the printer and retesting, is what I'd try next.
One person here, mentions a faulty card reader, as the source
of his error messages.
