This is strange. My computer has been a bit flakey. At times I get a
slew of error 11's to my event viewer - system. This morning I
started my computer and it came up from a reboot (I usually SLEEP it w/
o issue.) This indicates a crash of some flavor to me, but there was
no blue screen. There were hundreds of event 11 in the log:

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom5."

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I have an ATE CD device on each of my two ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE ports.
(Hard drive is SATA.)

I have an outboard PLEXTOR DVD burner on USB2.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 0\Scsi Bus
0\Target Id 0\Logical Unit Id 0
has a CdRom0, identified correctly.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 1\Scsi Bus
0\Target Id 0\Logical Unit Id 0 has a CdRom1, identified correctly.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 2\Scsi Bus
3\Target Id 31\Logical Unit Id 0
has "SI Pseudo Device 0000" not a clue. (Silicon Image? my second
set of SATA interfaces? Nothing on them.) Maybe a NERO virtual
drive? Didn't think I installed that.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 4\Scsi Bus
0\Target Id 0\Logical Unit Id 0
has my Maxtor 6V200F0 sata HDD.

I can search my registry for CdRom5 and find nothing. What's going
on? This is getting irritating.

Have you tried replacing the cable(s)?
