Got the "Drive x\:Inaccessible Incorrect Function" popup from Windows
Explorer on both my CD/RW drive and my floppy. I can boot to the CD
(at least Knoppix boots), and it's okay in Safe Mode. And I can burn
CDs in Nero Express. And music CDs boot to WinAmp.
I've done the following:
Replaced flpydisk.sys and cdfs.sys from another machine with the same
SP (4), on which the problem doesn't exist.
Uninstalled InCD. I'm reluctant to uninstall Nero Express; at least
right now I can burn CDs for backup.
Booted to Safe Mode, uninstalled floppy and CD/RW from Device Manager,
so they'd be redected on reboot. (this was a PITA, as I can't seem to
get at Safe Mode with my USB keyboard; had to resurrect my old one --
is there a way to access SM with a USB kb?)
Disabled NAV's Auto-protect.
None of these helped.
To the best of my knowledge, <checks Start-->Programs> I've installed
no new software in a long time. The most recent thing I'm 100%
certain about is SP4. Before that, it'd be the software for my
Memorex USB keyboard in February. I don't know exactly when this
problem began--but since late March--because I'd gone some months w/o
attempting to read a floppy or CD. I have updated the NAV datafile of
course; and updated both Ad-Aware and SpyBot S&D's reference files.
And installed SP4.
Hm. I looked at the article at symantec (this is a better URL to use:
http://tinyurl.com/2qo9w ) Mike E. referenced in an older thread and
what I did *not* do is disable the email scans. But I'm running
NAV2002, and have been, all along.
